Post subject:  Old Scenes & New Meanings

As much as I abhor visiting the official site I did come across this thread that I thought was interesting. Thought it would be nice for us to disect/speculate about it here.

I posted (my handle over there is I'mnotyoda) and realized I've been a member since 5/00 and only have 10 posts...

Here's the snippet I got from the beginning of the thread...

Quote:
We have heard about the parallels between the Original Trilogy and this one, but we have also seen new paths.

One tactic I would love to see George Lucas use in Episode III would be to have the plot role along into a point where someone, more likely a dark character, points out to another an event or peice of information in one of the previous two movies that, because of how Episode III would have played out until then, have a completely different meaning and act as a major plot point instead of a little fact or meaningless incident in the first occurence. What event or peice of information in the previous two movies do you think would be used and explain the new meaning in Episode III and how it plays out.

I remember reading an interview somewhere with GL where he said we'd view TPM and AOTC a different way after seeing ROTS.

Any Ideas?

i get the feeling obi wans character may seem tarnished some after this. like maybe he really did fail in training anakin and yoda should have.

Jar Jar is the emperor

I really think we will see something like this happen in episode 3. My only hope is that GL doesn't cop out and go with something obvious like Jar Jar's speech giving Palpatine emergency powers. That seems obvious, but it seems like he's hell bent on spelling things out so I wouldn't put it past him.

i bet if u asked any casual movie goer about ep 2 all they will remember (if anything!) would be the arena battle and "the little green martian jumping around" ;) sifo dyas is just another macguffin like midichlorians that will probably just go unmentioned in ep3 though it should be explained though it is definetly sidious!! and bet the virgin birth of anakin is also down to sidious! ;)

sidious has nothing to do with anakins birth. And the odd look they had about syfo dyas's death is because he died a mystery. They now piece together that Dyas found out what Dooku was up to got bitchslapped down and killed by dooku and dooku erased the files and quit the order shortly there after. So sidious personally did bot erase the file, his apprentice dooku did.

After recently rewatching TPM I noticed Shmi behaving odd, some sith music playing at the end of one of her scenes, several nasty looks from Anakin to Mace, and Maul markings on the ceiling in Anakins bedroom where C3PO is introduced (the markings are very similar to some of the markings on Mauls head).

Also,I noticed that Anakin never sees Mauls face (or tattoos),he drops face down into the sand as Maul flies over him and Maul also keeps his hood up for the whole fight. How does Anakin have yellow eyes in his dream if he has never seen any?

I think Shmi acted odd for the same reason that Natalie Portman was stiffer than a rock, a general lack of direction... I've read that she's (whatever Shmi's name is IRL) a very good actress, I've seen most of Portman's work and I know she's much better than what she shows us in both TPM and AOTC.

Is Qui Gon is gonna make an appearance as a blue glowie in this one?

You really need to see this 3 meg clip CGI clip I have of an "Episode 2 Screentest" starring Jar Jar. I'll see if I can dig it up somewhere. It was fucking hilarious.

I kinda feel bad for Obi Wan. He seems to me to be the type of person who always comes to work 15 minutes early, leaves late... typical Employee of the Month.... always sticking by the rules. After all is said and done he's lives his life out, as Yoda does, as a witness to what really happened in the Universe... that's gotta be fucked up.

If Anakin makes a choice... is it really Obi Wan's fault though?

Ah, the usual shit. If an actor is good its because they're great actors, if they're bad, its the directors fault. Portman is shit because Portman is a shit actress, in my opinion, of course !

Oh, the Sypho Dyas (or however the fuck you spell it) deal will definately be explained.

I mean, connecting the PT to the OT is one thing. But I don't see bringing up the Sypho Dyas "mystery', leaving everyone scratching their heads and asking what the fuck is going on, and then never address it.

Why not?!

They dicked us around with a nano-second of screen time for Aurra Sing, but then dropped her like a ton of poodoo! ;)

But, I see what you're saying. Spell it out for the casual movie goer... don't leave us high and dry on this.

I guess you haven't watched Attack of the Clones with the commentary on, eh?

palpsfan obviously has, however.

But of course mon freir (however the fuck you spell that) I think that even the best actors suck without the proper direction. A good buddy of mine directs (he isn't famous or anything) and we've had this discussion. I think his movies suck because he can't tell his people what he wants from them.

GL and his "faster more intense" line doesn't help his actors... wait... in the OT he used the same line and those came out pretty good...

Nevermind, I'm just full of shit.
